By Brian Barnett Counter-Strike: GO has received a new matchmaking system that analyses player behavior across Steam. According to the Counter-Strike blog , the new system has created something called a Trust Factor for Steam players. This system takes into account total time playing CS: GO, times players have been reported for cheating, and time spent playing other games on their Steam account, with all of these contributing to create a player’s Trust Factor. Valve says the results of the experiment have been positive, allowing them to keep the parts of the Prime system that were working, while ditching parts that caused issues in the CS: The Trust system is already live, but players will be able to opt to use Prime matchmaking for a little while longer. Last year, Valve launched the Prime Matchmaking service with the goal of providing a better matchmaking experience. The system required players to link their phone numbers and later it required players to reach at least rank Because of this, Prime status ended up causing division within the community, as Prime players couldn’t interact with non-Prime players.

Global Offensive Beta Counter-Strike: Seeing this as an opportunity to expand the franchise, Valve turned it into an entirely new game. After the success of the previous game, Valve wanted the newest game in the franchise to cater to both the casual and competitive community by including a matchmaking system as well as support for dedicated servers. Valve announced the beta would begin in October, but after receiving feedback from professional players who had been invited to playtest earlier versions of the beta, Valve decided to delay the beta [4].

After addressing the majority of the issues the closed beta started on November 30, to a pool of around 10, select players. After almost a year of the closed beta, Valve opened the beta up starting August 14, to anyone who had pre-ordered the game.

Random Article Blend When it comes to playing games online there’s usually a group of gamers who feel slighted that some online-only games don’t have offline modes. It’s a common complaint you see from many gamers, because there is definitely some truth to the effect of online games eventually shutting down and taking all of the player progress with it. In a rare case of trying to give gamers what they want, Valve decided to actually give the first-person shooting community a taste of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive without having to pay a dime for it.

Yes, there’s actually a free offline version of the first-person shooter that’s been made available for gamers. PCGamer is reporting that the free offline version of Counter-Strike:

A brand new patch for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has just been rolled out by Valve, bringing some much needed improvements to the matchmaking system, not to mention tweaks to the smoke grenade and quite a few other changes. Global Offensive is slowly but surely bringing the old series back to its glory days, becoming more and more popular and attracting a lot of active players on Steam and professionally during major tournaments. After a period of no updates, Valve has just rolled out a fresh patch for CS: GO, via Reddit , making some major changes to quite a few key systems.

First up, the official competitive matchmaking system has seen some significant tweaks in order to prevent incomplete matches from starting. More specifically, the warmup timer before the start of the match is now set to start at 5 minutes and, once all players connect to the server, it will drop down to 30 seconds. However, if a player hasn’t connected before the end of warmup, they will receive an abandon penalty and the match will be aborted.

This is a major change, as quite a lot of players were forced into matches with incomplete teams and bots. Big tweaks have been made to the smoke grenade, as it will interact better with Molotov fire, and the smoke volume is now more consistently shaped as a round circle, instead of a square. What’s more, Valve has also tweaked the minimum distance from the center of a smoke grenade in which a player’s view will be completely obscured.

In recent months, the infamous “one-way smokes” have become quite popular, as players would throw down a smoke grenade in certain spots and sit just on the edge, so that they would see enemies but enemies wouldn’t see them. Plenty of other tweaks have been made to different other mechanics, including the Coaching system, but also for dropped weapons. Bugs relating to armor buying or voting have been resolved, as well as different crashes experienced by players.

Your past experiences in Steam games and the time spent playing them will now factor into Counter-Strike: Global Offensive that takes into account more than your skill in the game. After the success of Prime Matchmaking — the most recent matchmaking iteration that only matched together players who have a unique phone number attached to their Steam account — Valve has moved on to a broader and less punishing algorithm. The new system is dubbed Trust Factor, and the developer explains that it looks at the time you spent on Steam in general, whether it be playing Counter-Strike: Global Offensive or other games, as one of the variables it uses to decide your teammates and enemies.

The system is live now, and the goal is for all players to generate less reports.

Additionally, players will now have a Wingman skill group that will be used exclusively when matchmaking in Wingman.

War Games With the War Games format, players were able to select their desired game mode and could select a new experience after a few rounds. The Competitive Matchmaking map pool previously contained every map in CS: GO, making it difficult for new or recently updated maps to stand out among the crowd of available options and generating poor matches as a result.

To address these problems, the least-played maps will no longer be featured in official Competitive Matchmaking.

By Laura Kate Dale on at Normally, matchmaking is done on a game by game basis. If you play well in this game, you get matches with more competent players in the next, and if you cheat you might get penalised in matchmaking pools in future games. Global Offensive is now taking into account more than just your CS: GO gameplay stats when matching you up with other players.

As part of a new system called The Trust Factor, users will be matched up not just based on their time with CS: In other words, it’s not just putting together players based on skill, but on whether they tend to get reported or abandon matches or whatever other behaviour Valve considers undesirable. The intention for the system is for players to issue fewer reports saying that they’re unhappy with their matchmaking, or online play experience. Valve have not explicitly outlined a full list of the factors that make up the new matchmaking system, but if you don’t fancy it, there will still be an option to use the previous Prime matchmaking system which required users to add a verified phone number before playing.

Due to the secrecy around the system, at least a few players are now nervous their bad behaviour in other Steam games may impact their CS: Only time will tell.

I suspect that my friend has a low Trust Factor because of the quality of my matches when, and only when, I party up with them. What can I do about this? What factors are considered in Trust Factor matchmaking? At this time we are not providing the list of factors used in the Trust Factor matchmaking system.

Steam now monitors users for ‘CS: GO , as the developers of the game will now be tracking player behavior and activity to facilitate matchmaking. Valve, the developer and publisher studio of the competitive multiplayer first-person shooter FPS will now be tapping their proprietary online game market Steam to analyze the users’ data and consider several factors outside of “CS: GO” to connect their users to other players. This system is aptly named, Trust Factor, or simply Trust, and expands upon the game’s initial matchmaking system called Prime Matchmaking, which was launched last year.

Due to the game’s ambitious nature and its massive potential for e-sports, Prime Matchmaking was perhaps not enough to determine a fair gameplay session for the players. This is why the Trust system was implemented. Regarding the shift, Valve has stated, “What if the Prime system was re-imagined using a wider range of factors? We started with that question, and have been experimenting with matching players using observed behaviors and attributes of their Steam account, including the overall amount of time they had spent playing ‘CS: GO,’ how frequently they were reported for cheating, time spent playing other games on their Steam account, etc.

That said, Steam users with a clean track record from “CS: GO,” or Steam itself, should have nothing to worry about, unless the system proves ineffective or buggy. For users who favor only the Prime Matchmaking system, Valve has given gamers the freedom to use either or both , meaning the Trust system can be turned off. Unfortunately, they have not exactly outlined the exact factors which will be considered in the Trust system.
